What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?

"Blessings" by Laura Story

This is something I need to be reminded of time and time again. He is in control and working out His plan in His time.

Edit

After a gentle admonish from my darling mother I revised my post from last week titled "Tradition." Yes, I am now 26 years old. And yes I still have the tendency to be a bit of a loose cannon and write whatever I'm feeling no matter if I'm in a heightened emotional state :P.  Anyhow, reread it and tell me what you think!

Yesterday Mom and I went for a walk to the "Healing Garden" at the church across the road where I snapped a few pictures... forgive the blurriness of the one of me and mom - I had to make a wild dash because I could only figure out how to put the camera on a 2 second timer and it didn't exactly focus that well on us. Oh well :)

Our own not-so-healing garden in all it's wild, perennial glory

Tradition!

I love this film...  Sometimes I've had the feeling that what happened to some of the daughters in Fiddler on the Roof might be my experience as well. Tradition is good and has it's place for sure... but I think perhaps we can sometimes be too set on traditions that have no moral ground. And being the last of a large family to get married is a little scary too! When you have an opinionated family (not necessarily a bad thing) with high standards, the thought of taking anyone home makes me nervous! Especially if they are not from the same background and traditions that I've grown up with. But... if I feel peace about it before God then I think it's ok to forge ahead and chart new territories while forming a relationship. Words of advice are always welcome and I will try to receive them graciously ;), but above all prayer is most appreciated! We have a God who is able to do "abundantly more than we ask for or think!"

birthday girl!

Hurray Hurray it's my birthday today! It's pretty cool to think that 26 years ago dear Marme gave birth to me. Yes dear readers, 26 years ago, for that is how old I am today! Thank You Lord for sparing me another year!

It's funny, last year I was dreading to turn 25 because it seemed so dreadfully OLD, but this year I was looking forward to turning 26. Twenty-six just seems like such an established age. And besides, it's an even number. I prefer even numbers over odd ones. I no longer really care how old I am anymore. It's just a number anyways. (Although come back to me when I'm about to turn 30 and I might have different thoughts! Haha). When did you stop caring about how "old" you were?

Nurses Appreciation Week!

As it is Nursing Week, I thought I'd blog about it and share some pictures. Since graduation in May 2010 I've had quite the journey!
Jeanette and I at our Graduation

I started off my career as a working woman ;) on the Burn Unit at the Hamilton General Hospital. Since I had my last placement as a student there and enjoyed it, it was great that I was hired on part time. I learned all things related to wound care and pain management here. We were also the only unit that uses leeches on patients occasionally! :)

Celebrating a co-workers birthday - party hat made from a urine measuring container!

Some colleagues and I at a Conference

While I really enjoyed my work on the Burn Unit it was frustrating not having a regular schedule or consistent hours. In answer to prayer, I got a full time job in October 2012 on 7 West, a NeuroSurgical Ward also at the Hamilton General. Here I've been learning all things related to head trauma, bleeds and brain tumours and the various surgical interventions that are implemented.

Ron - we were the lucky ones to work New Years Eve! We all brought food and had a regular party :)

Unbenownst to me this picture was taken with SOMEONE's Iphone. I'm ready to do some charting on one or our W.O.W.s (workstation on wheels). When the hospital first changed to electronic documentation these were called C.O.W.s (computer on wheels) but the name was changed... and we'll save that story for another time, haha.

Satisfying Housework

It's amazing how productive you can be if you set your mind to it! I had a full, busy day today. With mom and dad away for 2 weeks and now due back in a couple days I needed to start getting the house and yard in shape. It was a beautiful weekend and I mucked around in the garden for a bit, going to town on the weeds that had cropped up in our perennial rock garden. This morning after a long night shift I heaved the mower out the garage and started on the lawn - rain was in the forecast so it was now or never! Do you know how frustrating it is to mow an overgrown lawn that is slightly damp? Darn mower kept getting bogged down! But I slogged through it and managed to get the front yard done... Then it was time to hit my bed for 6 hours. Once awake I was back at it: 4 loads of laundry, vacuuming, watering plants, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms... you get the picture. But what a great feeling to be done! Now for an episode of Mcleod's Daughters before hitting the sack again... ;)
