Nursing News: Thursday's Things #26

Taking care of confused, often elderly patients can have it's challenges but also moments of levity. Here are just a few lighthearted incidents that I could think of off the top of my head:

~ Peaking in on one of my cute-as-a-button old lady charges at 2:00 in the morning to hear a high squeaky voice chirp out: "Good morning sweetie! How are you? I love you!"

~ Having my delicious, just made green tea snatched by a patient lurking in the nurses station in his wheelchair.

~ Giving a sleeping pill to a normally restless little lady only to come back 15 min later to find her slumped over in her wheelchair dead to the world - not to awaken for another 10 hours. Seeing as her wheelchair had no footrests on it, I had to pull the wheelchair backwards down the hall and with the help of another nurse, lift her into bed.

~ Being interrupted while giving report at 7:00 in the morning to the on-coming shift by a loud, irate voice and looking over to see a tiny, short little thing sporting two black eyes parked behind her walker, mad as a hornet about something or other. (Ok, so it's not funny that she was so angry, but it was a comical sight.)

~ Hearing a bed alarm go off and seeing 3 nurses appear out of nowhere to dash down the hall at high speed to avert a patient from falling out of bed
